The Point Mobile PM550 was specifically designed for the demanding day-to-day work in warehouses and combines a rugged design with modern Android technology. At the heart of this MDE device is a 4.3-inch, easy-to-read WVGA display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, which remains clearly visible even in bright lighting conditions thanks to its high brightness. Instead of a virtual on-screen keyboard, the PM550 deliberately features a physical keyboard with 24 or 51 keys to ensure that the view of the screen is not obstructed. The device is powered by a Qualcomm processor with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage, running Android with the Enterprise Mobility Kit (EmKit). This software package significantly simplifies deployment within the enterprise. An integrated 1D/2D imager is available for daily barcode scanning, reliably reading even damaged or poorly printed GS1 symbols. An optional extra-long-range version is available, allowing labels to be scanned from a distance of up to eleven meters—for example, for pallets stored high on shelves. The scanning performance is complemented by the Extended Wedge function, which allows captured data to be adjusted directly on the device. This makes the PM550 ideal for order picking, goods receipt, and inventory control in logistics centers.

In addition to its scanning performance, the PM550 stands out above all for its endurance during continuous operation. The removable 6,300 mAh main battery is housed in the device’s pistol grip, ensuring not only balanced weight distribution but also long operating times without the need for recharging. An integrated 60 mAh hot-swap buffer battery temporarily takes over the power supply during battery replacement, ensuring that ongoing processes are not interrupted. For wireless connectivity to the warehouse management system, the device supports Wi-Fi according to IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/d/h/i/k/r/v with fast roaming support, as well as Bluetooth version 4.1, allowing it to integrate seamlessly into existing network infrastructures. The PM550 makes virtually no compromises when it comes to ruggedness: The housing is tested to MIL-STD-810G standards and can easily withstand multiple drops, while its dust and water resistance reliably protects the device even under adverse environmental conditions in the warehouse. A multi-touch display with a capacitive Corning Gorilla Glass surface also resists scratches and mechanical stress. Through the PULS Service, customers also receive Android security updates via remote maintenance for up to seven years, which significantly increases the investment security of the PM550.
